Hello!-18.png

Hi everyone, my name is Helen, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am super lucky to live by the sea in sunny East Sussex with my Husband, our Son and Daughter. I love to create, whether it’s baking cakes in the kitchen, being surrounded by pretty floral fabrics at the sewing machine or finger painting with the kids, its when I am at my happiest!

I studied Surface and Textile Design and have worked as a Freelance Textile Designer. I really enjoyed exploring different trends and influences but my personal style always edged towards delicate floral prints, feminine tones and interesting textures.

When Mr BLV FINALLY popped the question we decided early on that we wanted a laid back, relaxed vintage tea party feel to our wedding, with a nod to my favourite era the 1940's. I had the perfect excuse to indulge my passion for all things vintage and my collection of crockery, props and vintage pretties grew and grew! After months of creating and crafting our wedding arrived and it was everything we could have hoped for, just perfect! Our vision really came to life.

After the whirl wind of our wedding and romantic Mini Moon in a quaint Cornish cottage I felt that something was missing, I was craving another creative project to work on so Betty Loves Vintage was born.

I created Betty (named after my Grandmother) Loves Vintage as it encapsulates everything that I love. I can't wait to share my vintage, handmade treasures and my creative thinking with you.

Favourite Bake

I love to bake; I find it really relaxing. I will let you into a little secret, I am a super messy baker no matter how hard I try, flour and icing sugar will end up everywhere!

I rarely post any pics of my bakes for a few reasons, mainly because they are instantly devoured by Mr BLV and the kids but also because no mater what I try or what I bake it always ends up wonky, lop sided or uneven! Which is so funny because I’m such a perfectionist in every other aspect of my life but in baking I have no control over the oven!

My favourite thing to bake is a simple banana bread, it’s the one thing I always bake with the kids and we have lots of variations.

Favourite Film

One of my all-time favourite films is Baz Lurman’s Romeo and Juliet!

It’s one of my go to films if I have a rare evening evening to myself. It brings me a huge sense of nostalgia. I just love the bold, bright colours, the mad fast paced camera work, the over the top clothes and garish costumes, the soundtrack, thaaat fish tank!

I was 15 when it was released. I wanted to be Clare Danes after watching her in the TV series My So-Called Life and as for the floppy haired Romeo, well my best friend (who I am so lucky to say is still one of my best friends) and I developed a major Leo obsession. We would watch the film during many a sleep over with a tub of Ben and Jerrys.

I also went to see it at the cinema on my first proper date!

Favourite Prop

I actually love all of my vintage crockery and props or they wouldn’t have made it into my hire collection.

But the one of my favourite vintage props used to belong to my Nan and it’s the tea trolley. It sat in the big bay window of my grandparents living room. It never moved, from Spring to Summer it would be where my Nan would keep her fruit bowl and from Autumn to Winter the fruit bowl would be replaced with a bowls of walnuts, hazel nuts, and Brazil nuts still in their shells along with quality streets.

I love the fact that it has now been used for so many different things, in so many different locations, from a place to style little tea party themed displays, to a bar and a place for bridal bouquets to rest while couples dance the night away.
