What is a wedding style?

Your wedding style is how you and your partner want your wedding to look and feel. It’s part of every visual aspect from the type of wedding venue you choose to the style of invites you send your guests. Your wedding style can be the theme or the small details that run through your wedding day that makes the whole day not only work as one but makes your wedding truly unique and personal to you both.

Why It’s useful to know your wedding style?

I highly recommend you take a bit of time figuring out your wedding style early on in your wedding planning process. I promise you it will make your life so much easier! It will save you so much time in the long run, you won’t need to trawl through heaps of classic and formal wedding style inspiration for ideas if you know that you want a relaxed, vintage vibe to your wedding day.

Knowing your wedding style will help you make choices quickly, like what sort of wedding venues you want to start looking at, an elegant country house wedding venue or a rustic barn filled with character.

Having your wedding style pinned down will help you focus. You will have a clear idea of what you like and dislike, this will be so useful when communicating with your wedding suppliers.

How do you find your wedding style?

Ok, so the all-important question how on earth do I find our wedding style? A great place to start is to look around you. What’s your home interior like? How have you decorated it? Are you drawn to a particular style or period?

Head over to your wardrobe and have a rummage, what’s your fashion style? Are there any trends you follow? What brands do you shop at? What colours do you feel good in?

Why not organise a date night and sit down with your love and talk about all of your favourite things. What are you and your partner’s passions. Do you have any hobbies? What do you love to do at the weekend? Is there a place that you love to travel to together?  What type of music do you listen to? Who are your favourite bands?

Ultimately what makes you, you.

With all of this lovely information gathered it’s now time to head over to Pinterest and start looking at real weddings. Create your own wedding ideas board and start filling it with images that you like. Then stop and look at what you have pinned. Really start to think about what it is you liked about the images, is there a common theme, or colour that starts to emerge? Do you notice if you are drawn to light and airy images or darker and more dramatic images?

I hope that you find these tips a helpful starting point. When trying to figure out your wedding style please remember there’s no right or wrong answers and there is certainly no limit to your wedding style, you can even have more than one, a mash up of different styles this will create a look personal to you both.
