What Is A Micro Wedding And Why Should I Plan One?

If there was ever a year that inspired, you to plan an unconventional wedding 2020 was it! Who could have predicted a global pandemic would put the world into lockdown and flip our lives as we knew them upside down?

Weddings have been able to take place in England in some form since July, but with restrictions and guidelines constantly changing, engaged couples have had to get creative and think outside of the box. Planning a micro wedding or an elopement is the way forward.

Whether you are planning a micro wedding from scratch or maybe adapting and downsizing your postponed wedding, micro weddings though small in numbers don’t have to small in every aspect! (unless you want them to be?!)

What is a micro wedding?

A micro wedding is usually described as a wedding with 30 guests or less. A micro wedding differs form an elopement that is usually where the couple chooses to get married in secret, often at short notice and only with a couple of guests, the micro wedding is planned in a similar way to a usual wedding but on a smaller scale. It can be as traditional or non-traditional as you want it to be, often relaxed and personal.

Fewer guests to invite

Reducing the size of your guestlist may feel like a tricky task, but it does make you think carefully about who you really want to be part of your wedding. I am sure the time spent in isolation earlier in the year has made you realise who you missed and who you truly couldn’t imagine getting married without.

Having fewer guests means that you are under no obligations to invite extended family, your Mum can’t guilt you into inviting that distant Cousin that you haven’t seen in years!

Don’t worry about offending family and friends, just make sure to explain the situation and that you go with your heart.

Having fewer guests means that you actually get to spend quality time celebrating with each guest. Sharing your wedding day with a small number of the people who mean the most to you will make it even more magical!

A greater choice of wedding venues

With fewer guests you have less people to worry about fitting into a space. This may open a whole new range of intimate wedding venues and unique spaces for you to explore.

You could even have a celebrant led wedding in the woods or on the beach if you feel like embracing the Great British weather.

Your dream castle or country house wedding venue may have a smaller room available that you could hold have your micro wedding in. There are even small intimate wedding venues that specialise in micro weddings.

Budget stretches further

Downsizing your day may mean that you have more budget to spend on other areas of your wedding. Think about the things that matter to you both and prioritize them. That dream wedding dress you originally thought would be out of your budget. Indulging your inner foody by splurging on quality, seasonal food, and fine wines. Or going big on show stopping venue décor and creative venue styling. fill every surface with flowers, hire beautiful vintage tableware for your wedding tables.

Your wedding may be small in numbers but that does not mean that it has to be small in details, by focusing on the smaller finishing touches and the personal details that reflect you as a couple, you will make your wedding truly unique and create an unforgettable experience for yourselves and your guests.
