5 Ways To Have A Spring Wedding Anytime of the Year, Creative Vintage Wedding Stylist, Sussex

My heart goes out to all of you who have had to postpone your weddings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I know that there isn’t much I can say or do to make the situation feel better, but I started to think about you all and I thought, you know what? It doesn’t actually have to be Spring to have a Spring wedding!

I have put together my 5 top tips for having a spring wedding at any time of the year.

1.Colour

Think about choosing a colour palette for your wedding décor that takes inspiration from the flowers that would be growing in Spring.  Get inspired by the colour of beauties such as Ranunculus, Delphinium, Garden Roses, Tulips, Anemones, Nigella and blossom. Pretty pastels, bright candy colours or even tonal blues and lilcas make for perfect Spring colour palettes. Pick three to five colours in your chosen palette and use them to create a cohesive design that ties the overall look of your wedding together. You could carry this palette through to your bridesmaid’s dresses, your wedding stationery, your favours and even your centrepieces.

2. Florals

One of the main things I think of when I think Spring wedding style is the abundance of colourful seasonal flowers. Just because they aren’t currently growing doesn’t mean you can’t have a flower filled wedding.

Introduce floral prints into your wedding,  ditch the table cloths and dress your wedding tables with bold floral printed fabrics, choose wedding decor that has floral prints, hang décor such as patterned pinwheels, giant paper flowers and even suspend vintage chintz lampshades from the ceiling of your wedding venue. You could wear a floral print wedding dress, why stick to tradition? We are throwing out the rule book!

You may not be able to have the colourful flowers that you originally wanted in your bouquet or wedding centrepieces, but you can still have a colourful bouquet. There are so many creative alternatives, like bouquets made from handcrafted paper flowers or filled with have brightly dyed grasses and scented dried flowers will also make beautiful keepsakes.

3. Venue

Had your heart set on an outdoor wedding reception? Don’t panic there are still ways around this. Spring weather can still be a little unpredictable especially here in the UK, but the evenings do start to get lighter. Choose a clear marquee to make the most of the natural day light, it will bring the outside in as you will be surrounded by those beautiful views while keeping you dry.

Think about hiring in extra lighting for your venue, extra candles for that romantic candlelit evening reception, and extra lighting for outside areas. Up lit trees make an amazing statement, Strings of festoon lights and colourful lanterns create a whimsical garden party feel while leading your guests safely around.

You might want to hire in extra heating and add a few baskets of colourful pashminas around your evening reception venue for your guests to wrap up in if they start to feel the chilly.

4. Cake

Make a huge statement with your wedding cake. Look at show stopping designs that are filled with cascading handcrafted sugar flowers and pastel tones. Or creative cake designs that actually use flowers!  A wedding cake that’s completely covered in delicate pressed edible flowers. Biscuits iced with hand painted florals or short bread biscuits that containing a single pressed edible flower make the most beautiful Spring inspired wedding favours.

5. Catering

You might not be able to have the seasonal menu that you had originally planned, but a vintage afternoon tea is the perfect way to introduce English country garden vibes into your wedding reception. Served on beautiful vintage crockery in floral designs this carries the Spring theme through perfectly. You could even opt for an in-door picnic with hampers filled with delicious treats placed on your wedding tables.
